Households in South Northamptonshire due to have a bin collection on Christmas Day are being warned to put their bins out three days earlier this year.
Published: Tuesday, 4th December 2018
Collections due on Tuesday, 25 December will be brought forward to Saturday, 22 December 2018.
Collections due on Boxing Day, Wednesday, 26 December will be brought forward to Monday, 24 December.
Cllr Dermot Bambridge, South Northamptonshire Council’s portfolio holder for Environmental Services, said: “Our collection crews have a busy time over the Christmas period. Waste and recycling volumes reach a peak at this time of the year and they will be flat out doing the rounds so please give them some thought.
“We can all help by making sure that our bins are out for 7am. Lots of us will also have visitors but please make sure they park so that bin lorries can get through.”
The collection due on New Year’s Day, Tuesday, 1 January 2019, will also be brought forward to Saturday, 29 December 2018.
Once again green bin garden waste collections will be suspended for two weeks over Christmas and New Year.
In the east of the district they resume in the week commencing 7 January 2019 and in the west 14 January. Residents can recycle their real Christmas trees by placing them in or next to their green bins. All decorations and lights must be removed.
Households in South Northants can place as much recycling out for collection as they want next to their blue bin as long as it is bagged or tied up (no black bags).
But households that have the room and would like to permanently boost their recycling capacity can purchase an extra blue bin for £18, saving £12 on the normal price during a sale between Saturday, 1 December and Monday, 31 December.
