Homelessness review and strategy

The Homelessness Act 2002 requires all local housing authorities to carry out a homelessness review for their district and publish a homelessness strategy based on the results at least every five years.

There has since been a major change in homelessness legislation, with the implementation of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, in April 2018. This places new legal duties on English councils so that everyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness will have access to meaningful help, irrespective of their priority need status, as long as they are eligible for assistance.

Our current strategy and action plan cover the period 2018 to 2020 and were refreshed in November 2019 to align with the government's Rough Sleeping Strategy 2018.

Our strategy is based on the results of a homelessness review which covers trends in homelessness our district since our last strategy was published in 2015. The executive summary provides an overview of our homelessness review.
