The Chairman of the Council for 2019/20 is Councillor Rosie Herring
Cllr Herring was born in Stockport near Manchester in1954 to Ruth and George Haigh. Her father was an ex-professional footballer who lived for the last 18 years in Middleton Cheney.
Cllr Herring met her husband at school and they moved together to Oxford where she was accepted onto the management training programme of the then Oxford Regional Health Authority and continued her studies at Oxford Brookes University.
She was appointed Commissioning Officer for the new John Radcliffe Hospital which she worked on for several years. When it was officially opened Cllr Herring was appointed as Assistant Chief Executive. She stayed there until after the birth of her first child and then moved to a similar role at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.
Cllr Herring has 3 children and one grandchild, Isabel, who has just turned 3. Her daughter Alexandra lives near Malmesbury, her son Samuel is currently living at home but travels around the world and her youngest son, Joshua is a musician and is studying for a master’s degree in Copenhagen.
Cllr Herring became a councillor in 2003 for Danvers and Wardoun Ward and feels the role has given her the chance to use her knowledge and experience gained over 13 years working for the NHS. It is because of this that she has taken such an interest in local health issues and still serves as a Governor of the Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust and the Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust.
During her time as a Councillor she has served on Cabinet from 2009 to 2016 and was portfolio holder for Communities and Wellbeing.
The last 16 years have literally flown by. Cllr Herring has thoroughly enjoyed working on behalf of her constituents and with fellow councillors and officers many of whom she now regards as friends.
Cllr Herring believes it is a great honour to be selected as Chairman of South Northamptonshire Council and she is looking forward to a busy and interesting year representing our amazing and beautiful District.
In addition to leading full council meetings and representing the council locally and the district further afield, Cllr Herring will be raising money for Brackley Community Hospital.
