Disabled Facilities Grants

Who can apply?

To apply for a DFG you or someone living in the property must be disabled. Applications can be made for both children and adults

A disabled person under the age of 18 is entitled to the maximum £30,000. If you are 18 or over; the amount you can apply for will depend on your income and savings, and a means test will be undertaken at the early stages of a Grant application. If your income is over a certain level and/or you have other capital which we will need to consider as part of the means test; you may not be eligible for assistance or you may be required to make a contribution to the cost of the works. Where your contribution exceeds the anticipated cost of the works, we are unable to award a grant; however we can signpost you for support as a private client elsewhere. If you are in receipt of certain benefits or the works are for a disabled child, the application will automatically qualify – this is known as ‘passported’.

You are eligible to apply for a DFG if you receive any of the following although not all of these will passport or automatically qualify your application for assistance:

  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Personal Independent Payment
  • Council Tax Reduction (not single occupancy reduction)
  • Income support
  • Income-based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Guarantee Pension Credit

If you do not receive any of the above you may still be eligible for some assistance.
