How can I comment on a planning application?
To comment on an application on the online planning register, first follow the instructions to view a planning application. Once you have found the application, click on the ‘Comments’ tab, then enter the required details and your comments on the application.
To guarantee that your comments are considered, we need to receive them before the deadline set out in the notification letter, site notice or press advertisement. These dates can be viewed by finding the application on the planning register and clicking the ‘Consultees’ tab (make sure you submit your comment before the latest expiry date on this page). We will still consider comments received after this deadline, provided that the decision has not already been taken.
If an appeal is made against a refusal of consent/planning permission for householder development, minor commercial development or advertisement consent, it will be dealt with based on representations in writing. Any representations that were made about this application will be sent to the Secretary of State, but there will be no further opportunity to comment at the appeal stage.
You can identify these applications on the planning register as outlined below:
- Householder applications – Listed as ‘Householder Developments’ in the ‘Application Category’ box on the ‘Main Details’ tab.
- Advertisement consent – Listed as ‘Advertisement’ in the ‘Application Category’ box on the ‘Main Details’ tab.
- Minor commercial development – The ‘Proposal’ box on the ‘Main Details’ tab states if the application is for a minor commercial development.
