Parking

The majority of motorists park correctly but one irresponsible motorist parking in the wrong place can cause delays, queuing and inconvenience for other road users.

Parking restrictions help keep traffic moving, keep streets safe, allow space for emergency vehicles and help support local businesses.

Parking restrictions in South Northamptonshire are enforced by Northamptonshire County Council. Visit Northamptonshire County Council website for more information on parking enforcement and restrictions, to pay a penalty notice online, appeal against a penalty notice or find out about car parks in the county. There is also a useful section on frequently asked questions.

Planning guidance

The government has said Northamptonshire must take a certain amount of new housing over the next few years, so it is important that with any new development we consider issues of parking.

We have adopted planning guidance on parking which has been drawn up and agreed by all seven county, district and borough councils in Northamptonshire. This planning guidance sets out how all councils will make sure that there is the right amount of parking in any new development in the county.
