Social media - acceptable use policy

South Northamptonshire Council use a variety of social media outlets, which we invite and encourage the public to like and follow us on.

What you can expect from our Facebook page

We will regularly post new information during business hours, Monday to Friday, about what's going on in South Northamptonshire, so that you are first to learn about our latest news. We will also keep you posted about ways to have your say, and get involved.

Social media, as well as other forms of communication will only be used, outside of normal business hours, for the purpose of communicating urgent notifications from South Northamptonshire Council.

How to use our Facebook page

We monitor our Facebook page on a regular and ongoing basis and we will try to reply to all direct messages on our wall as quickly as possible. If you have individual circumstances or complaints we will direct these to the appropriate Council department, who will be able to help. For your privacy, if we need to ask for any personal information, we will ask that you send this as a private message.

We want to let you know what's going on, and hear what's important to you. We hope that you enjoy receiving our latest news first. However, we do have to make sure that our page isn't offensive to others or unlawful in any way and so we reserve the right to remove, without notice, any posts which we feel are inappropriate.

When posting comments on our Facebook wall, we would kindly ask that you be civil, tasteful and relevant when you are posting comments.

In particular, do not:

Please take care not to make libellous statements. In law, this means a statement that lowers the reputation of a person or organisation in the eyes of a reasonable person. By publishing such a statement we can both get into serious trouble. We will therefore take down any statement that could be deemed to be libellous.

In the six week run up to an election - local, general or European - councils have to be very careful not to do or say anything that could be seen in any way to support any political party or candidate. We will continue to publish important service announcements using Facebook but may have to remove responses if they are overtly party political.
