Silverstone draft development brief

A draft version of the brief was published for public consultation in 16 October to 26 November 2007. Following the consultation the comments received were analysed and amendments made to the brief for purposes of adoption. Aylesbury Vale District Council has considered the changes for those parts of the brief falling within its District. It will approve the brief at the time it is adopted by South Northamptonshire Council.

At its meeting of 4 February 2008 the Cabinet of South Northamptonshire Council considered the brief and resolved that it be adopted subject to amended wording and a satisfactory outcome with regard to the enabling funding, see below. Adoption was delegated to the Head of Planning and Leisure.

However, the matter was called in for scrutiny by the Economic and Environmental Review and Development Committee. At its meeting on 27 February the Committee resolved that the matter be referred to a meeting of the full council. The full council meeting on 2 April 2008 will make recommendations to the Cabinet when it considers the matter again on 14 April 2008.

The Silverstone Circuit Development Brief is intended to provide planning guidance for improvements proposed for the motor racing circuit. These include a new pit and paddock complex to provide up to date motor racing facilities needed to retain the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Housing and employment development which will provide enabling funding for the pit and paddock is also covered by the brief. Other uses include hotel accommodation, an education campus, an exhibition and conference area and uses related to motor sport and the motor industry.

The brief covers an area falling in both Aylesbury Vale and South Northamptonshire districts. Each authority will need to approve the part of the brief relevant to its area. Once approved the brief will be referred to when decisions are being made on planning applications for development within its area.
