What is building control?

About the service

We have great ambitions at South Northants Council to be one of the best building control services in Northamptonshire. Excellent customer service and customer satisfaction is placed high on our agenda.

We recognise that we are an important part of the development process and work closely with architects and builders to achieve efficient buildings that are fit for purpose.

We have many years of experience in Building Control and have built up a thorough knowledge about development throughout South Northants and a great deal of local knowledge about the area. We also have the ability to liaise with other services, particularly when dealing with sustainability, historic buildings and major projects.

Service targets

We aim to check 85% of full plans applications within 15 working days from the date of deposit.

We aim to carry out an efficient inspection service with 95% carried out on the same day, 97% within one day, and 100% within 3 days of a request.

If we receive a request for a site inspection before 10.00am we will endeavour to inspect on that day.

We issue a completion certificate for every job that is satisfactorily completed.

We keep and maintain the records of all building activity carried out in the district. Our records back to 1992 and can be viewed online using the online-register.

If you are unfamiliar with any aspect of building control, and can't find the answers on our website, we can help guide you through the process.
