We take the safety of local people very seriously.
The environment protection team have powers to ensure derelict and empty buildings are made secure to stop children entering them. The responsibility to keep property safe and secure rests with the occupier or land owner. They will be told to board up ground floor openings, if necessary.
We also want to bring empty properties back into use if we can. If you know of empty properties that could be opened up and used again, let us know.
We can also take action if the property is in such a state that it starting to affect the neighbourhood. Our Planning Enforcement Team may be able to take action.
