Residents in Brackley in South Northamptonshire will have a chance at the end of July to tell the Council what affordable housing is needed in their community.
South Northamptonshire Council is sending out the Housing Needs Survey to every resident in the town, with the next edition of the Town Talk newsletter at the end of July.
The survey is part of a programme of consultation around the district to give the Council accurate local information about what affordable housing is needed and where it would be best situated. We can then use this information to work with developers to provide small-scale developments to meet this local need.
The survey asks a range of questions to find out what residents think about housing within their town and in particular, asks who needs to move within the town in the next five years, how many people want to live in Brackley, and which of these people have a strong local connection to the town.
Councillor Mary Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, said “It’s getting more and more difficult for local people to be able to afford houses close to family or friends, or close to somewhere they have a local connection to.
“A housing needs survey is a very important tool for the Council to be able to find out what affordable housing local communities need, want and can use. It helps us identify people who want to live locally so that we can start working to help them do that.”
It’s a great opportunity for you to have your say. Even if you don’t have a need for housing yourself, you may know family members or local people who want to live locally but can’t afford to do so.
Previous Housing Needs surveys in Blisworth and Nether Heyford have already resulted in small developments in these villages to make sure that local people who want to, can afford to live in the district.
For further information about the survey, residents can contact Paul Brunige, Strategic Housing Officer at the Council, on 01327 322373.
