Towcester Playday gets set to celebrate children’s right to play

28-Jul-2010

Inflatable jousting, Laser Quest, a bouncy castle, face painting and Play Rangers – these are just some of the exciting activities on offer for children during Playday on 4 August – the national day for play.

Taking place at Towcester Recreation Ground, Playday is an annual national celebration of children’s right to play and provides a safe environment to play and be creative outdoors.  Register for free on the day and collect a wristband to allow access to the inflatables.  Sure Start Children’s Centre (0-5 year olds) is attending from 1.30pm to 3.30pm and children aged 5 to 16 can attend from 10.15am to 3.30pm. The Riverside Centre will be opening their coffee bar for refreshments.

Organised by South Northamptonshire Council, the event in Towcester is one of many Playday celebrations taking place throughout the UK over the summer which are giving thousands of children, young people and communities, the chance to get out and play.

Many of the Playday activities are being run thanks to the assistance of a number of partner organisations including the Big Lottery Fund which supports the Play Ranger ‘Play on the Move’ scheme.

As well as a celebration, Playday also campaigns to put children at the heart of our communities.  For more information, go to: www.playday.org.uk

For more information on activities at Towcester Recreation Ground, call Tom Kittendorf, Sport and Play Development Officer at South Northamptonshire Council, on 01327 322078.

Photo opportunity:  The Chairman of South Northamptonshire Council, Councillor Dermot Bambridge, will be speaking to local children at the Laser Quest at 11.30am.
