Moat Lane regeneration moves into next phase

15-Jul-2010

On 30 June an outline planning application was submitted to West Northamptonshire Development Corporation for the regeneration of the Moat Lane and Northampton Road area in Towcester. The application is due to be considered by WNDC’s Towcester Planning Committee by this autumn.

Proposals reflect a vibrant, modern town centre including a shared community facility with new office facilities, a community library and registry office, improved leisure facilities – including a new hotel, restaurant, cafes and bars – improved car parking, and additional shops. This is focused around the restored Bury Mount and recently opened Watermeadows.

The application is being subject to a public consultation exercise and responses should be made directly to WNDC by Friday 6th August 2010. South Northamptonshire Council is holding a public exhibition to give interested residents the opportunity to view the application and find out more information about the proposals. The event will take place at The Mill, Chantry Lane, Towcester, NN12 6YY on Friday 23rd July between 11am and 6pm and Saturday 24th July between 9am and 2pm. Details of the outline planning application can also be viewed at WNDC in Northampton or online at www.wndc.org.uk. Further information on the scheme can also be found at www.moatlane.org.

Councillor John Townsend, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Policy, said: ‘This is a real milestone for the Moat Lane project and we are confident that the outline planning application reflects feedback we’ve received from the community and key stakeholders since 2007. We hope that residents will be pleased with this vision for the future of Towcester.’

Peter Mawson, Chief Executive of WNDC, said: ‘This is a very important planning application for the future of Towcester, proposing major new investment, jobs and community facilities. It will be subject to a rigorous consultation exercise so local people get the chance to have their say. We look forward to receiving everyone’s views’   The Moat Lane project is led by South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire County Council and the West Northamptonshire Development Corporation. It has benefited from significant funding and support from these organisations as well as Northamptonshire Enterprise Limited, the East Midlands Development Agency and the Homes & Communities Agency.
