Council asks for local views on affordable housing in Litchborough

23-Dec-2008

South Northamptonshire Council is asking residents in Litchborough to tell us about their housing needs. This is so that it can consider whether a small development of affordable housing is needed in the village.

Residents of Litchborough will be receiving a copy of a Housing Needs Survey in January 2009. The survey asks a range of questions to find out about housing needs within the village, and also asks about residents’ views on a small affordable housing development in Litchborough.

Analysis of the survey will find out who:
• Needs to move in the next five years
• Wants to live in Litchborough
• Has a strong local connection to the village

It’s a chance for you to have your say. Even if you don’t have a need for housing yourself, you may know members of your family or local people who want to live in Litchborough, but can’t afford to do so. If the results show there is a housing need, the council will be able to identify how much and what type of housing is required, and consider where to site it.

Councillor Mary Clarke, portfolio holder for housing, said, “It’s getting more and more difficult for local people to be able to afford houses close to family and friends or somewhere they have a local connection with.

“A housing needs survey is one of the tools used by the Council to provide the evidence that affordable housing is required in a particular location. In addition it helps us to identify those people with a local connection who want to live or work locally and it enables us to work with them to achieve their goal.”

If residents have any questions or concerns about the survey or any aspect of affordable housing, please contact Nadeem Khan, Strategic Housing Officer, on 01327 322374, or email nadeem.khan@southnorthants.gov.uk
