This time of goodwill and celebration is often accompanied by seasonal increases in eating, drinking and spending. This is all a lot of fun, but unfortunately it will also result in an estimated 3 million tonnes of waste across the UK.
But you can have the best of both worlds. By following our easy tips you can still have a great Christmas, but just make it a bit greener!
Here are our top ten tips for a green Christmas
1. Recycle your real Christmas tree in your green bin or take to Towcester or Farthinghoe Recycling Centres.
2. Put your empty bottles and cans in your recycling boxes or take them to the bottle bank
3. Recycle Christmas cards at Tesco, W H Smith, TK Maxx or M&S stores between 2-31 January 2009 (in aid of the Woodland Trust) or put them in your green bin
4. Recycle your cardboard packaging in your green bin or take to Towcester or Farthinghoe Recycling Centres.
5. Use lunch boxes for left overs instead of foil or cling film
6. Use rechargeable batteries for new toys and gadgets
7. Buy vegetables without any packaging
8. Give unwanted presents to charity shops, advertise them on Freecycle or sell them on Ebay
9. Send electronic Christmas cards to save on waste
10. Make recycling your New Years resolution!
