Manage your rubbish - at shops
Follow these easy tips to help reduce the amount of waste you produce and maybe cut your shopping bills!
- Buy concentrated products or refill packs e.g. fabric softeners, washing powers and toiletries. They reduce waste and are cheaper!
- Choose products with less packaging and say ‘no’ to unnecessary plastic bags.
- Use a sturdy shopping bag rather than carrier bags. Many supermarkets now do ‘bags for life.’ Re-use unwanted carrier bags as bin liners.
- Try to buy loose products rather than pre-packaged items. These are often cheaper anyway, and you can pick out the best!
- Buy in bulk - you will get less packaging and it will work out cheaper too.
- Use rechargeable batteries instead of disposable ones and use mains power whenever you have a choice.
- Consider using re-usable nappies. Over 8 million disposable nappies are landfilled in the UK every year. Modern reusable nappies are simple and quick to use and can save you over £600 compared to the cost of disposables.
