Looking after your pet

Pets are good for you!

Studies have shown that people with pets have a lower blood pressure and better health than those without.

But they need to be cared for and well looked after.

We have a range of advice leaflets which tell you all about keeping pets responsibly and within the law. You can download these from the list below and view them in Acrobat Reader:

  • Control of Nuisance Barking (pdf/528Kb)
  • Your Dog and the Law 2005 (pdf/ 264Kb)
  • Basic Step in Dog Training (pdf/ 288Kb)
  • Pet or Pest (pdf/ 284Kb)
  • Keeping Your Dog Healthy (pdf/ 304Kb)
  • Stray and Unaccompanied dogs (pdf/255Kb)
  • Animal Diseases in Man 2005 (pdf/ 332Kb)
  • You Dog and Your Holiday 2005 (pdf/ 276Kb)
  • Fixed Penalty for Dog Fouling (pdf/ 214Kb)
  • Cat Control 2005 (pdf/ 206Kb)
  • Rabbits (pdf/ 180Kb)

Dogs need to be exercised daily and walks are much more fun if your dog behaves on the lead and comes back whenever it is called.

The Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme is a fun way to train your dog and learn how to keep it happy and healthy. Visit the Kennel Club website. The Good Citizen Dog Scheme was launched by the Kennel Club in 1992 and all dogs can join.

We have two good citizen dog scheme classes running in South Northamptonshire:
