More than half of the money to keep us running comes from central government. The rest comes from the Council Tax you pay or business rates. We decide how much we are going to spend every year and the level of Council tax after talking to local people about what they need and looking at the kind of things we have to do as a council.
A draft budget is considered by our Cabinet of senior councillors at a special meeting every February. The Cabinet’s suggested budget is then looked at by all councillors at a full Council meeting in late February. This meeting sets the Council Tax for the coming year.
Not all the tax you pay to South Nothamptonshire Council is spent on us. Most of it goes to the County Council, Police and Parish Councils.
We review our work all the time, to check we are delivering value for your money. If you want to know more about all this, click on Council Tax.
All the detail on what we are planning to spend, our accounts and the view our auditors have of us can be found in the documents in General Library.
