A Scarecrow Competition for Compost Awareness Week

Ashton Allotments and South Northamptonshire Council ran a scarecrow competition on Friday 10th May with Ashton's very own Master Composter to celebrate Compost Awareness Week 2013.

Residents were invited to make and display a scarecrow at the allotments. The winners were Jan Willets and Bron Kenny who designed 'Auntie Scarecrow' - she's an 'anti-scarecrow', who attracts wildlife instead of scaring it away!

Prize giving

Jan Willets is pictured with Councillor Wilson. The hamper is being donated to the churchyard fundraising raffle. The gardens are in need of a bench and some more seeds.

All the entrants can be found on our Twitter pages, if you would like to see what all the scarecrows looked like.

Compost Stocks Renewed at Farthinghoe

Farthinghoe Recycling & Reuse Centre has had a fresh stock of compost delivered, just in time for Spring planting. If you are planning to get out into your garden in the next few weeks, you can buy peat-free, locally produced compost for only £3 per sack.

A Composting Success!

South Northamptonshire Council's Compost Giveaway Daywas a great success. Over 200 bags of free compost were given out to residents who visited Farthinghoe's Recycling & Reuse Centre, including two local Girl Guide groups who were working on their gardening badges. They were certainly keen to get into the garden!

Many thanks to all the visitors who took part. Don't forget it you are interested in becoming a volunteer Master Composter or would like more information on home composting, please see links below:
