We, as a council, want to make sure we treat everyone equally regardless of disability, race, age, sex, sexuality or religion.
As part of this commitment, we work to understand people's differences and value them. If, in any of your dealings with us, you feel we have not treated you politely and with respect because of your disability, race, age, sex, sexuality or religion, please tell us so we can improve our services.

We have a statutory duty to publish equality schemes in the areas of race, disability and gender.
In order to keep things simple, we have a single Equality & Diversity Scheme (2010-2013) which sets out our commitment to Equality for both customers and staff and is combined with our statutory equality schemes which detail how we will meet our responsibilities under the statutory equality duties.
Our Equality & Diversity Plan (2010-2013) supports the commitments in the Scheme and also shows our progress against the Equality Framework for Local Government (EFLG).
You can read the full scheme, or each individual section, below.
We are also currently screening all our policies, procedures and services across the Council to make sure they are fair to everyone and don't disadvantage any particular group.
These screenings are called Equality Impact Assessments (EIA). You can read the assessments we have already completed below.
