District Economic Profile
Each year the Council provides an analysis of its economy to ensure its economic priorities, delivered through the Economic Development Strategy, are still current.
Background:
The district of South Northamptonshire was formed in 1974 by bringing together Brackley Borough, the Brackley and Towcester Rural Districts and part of the Northampton Rural District.
Even today it is still mainly rural with two Historic Market Towns at Brackley (population 14,325) and Towcester (10,038).
The estimated population of the district in 2009 was 88,500 with 35,889 households.
We expect this figure to grow, and by 2012 the population is expected to be 92,500.
The population is spread over a wide area of 63,156 hectares and is the fastest growing in the county with an increase of 11.6% between 2001 and 2006.
London and Birmingham are just over an hour's travel away by road and rail, while trunk roads link the district with other major towns in the region, such as Northampton, Oxford, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Peterborough.

Spending Review
South Northamptonshire Council recently hosted an event with South Northamptonshire Enterprise Board to talk about the impact of the Spending Review on the economy of the District.
The event included a panel of business and political leaders talking through their experiences and giving businesses an opportunity to share their views on the future.
As part of the event the Council have produced a Summary of the Spending Review which gives a quick guide to the review.
