Cleaning the streets
With your help, it is our job to keep the streets and pavements of South Northamptonshire clean and tidy. Where you see litter and mess, let us know. Tell us also where you think we have missed areas or not done our job well. Call us on 01327 322344 or email:
environmental.services@southnorthants.gov.uk
We do regular and planned street cleaning in residential areas using mechanical sweepers that clean out the litter, leaves and blossom from footpaths and road channels. We go to the town centres in Towcester and Brackley daily.
We also sweep and clear litter on main roads and dual carriageways, including lay-bys and grass verges. We inspect this work and have to report to the Government on how well we keep the streets clean.
Roadworks and reporting problems
You can report potholes, graffitti, faulty street lights and any other problems with a local road, street or pavement by contacting the County Council's street doctor: Online Street Doctor
Telephone: 0845 601 1113 Email streetdoctor@northamptonshire.gov.uk
Visit Northamptonshire County Council's website for an up-to-date interactive map of current and planned roadworks across the UK, and a list of planned roadworks in Northamptonshire, to help you plan your journey. You can also find information on roadworks, delays and planning your journey on the Highways Agency website
Parking
The majority of motorists park correctly but one irresponsible motorist parking in the wrong place can cause delays, queuing and inconvenience for other road users. Parking restrictions help keep traffic moving, keep streets safe, allow space for emergency vehicles and help support local businesses.
Parking restrictions in South Northamptonshire are enforced by Northamptonshire County Council. Visit Northamptonshire County Council website for more information on parking enforcement and restrictions, to pay a penalty notice online, appeal against a penalty notice or find out about car parks in the county. There is also a useful section on frequently asked questions.
Planning guidance
We have adopted planning guidance on parking which has been drawn up and agreed by all seven county, district and borough councils in Northamptonshire. This planning guidance sets out how all councils will make sure that there is the right amount of parking in any new development in the county. Read the planning guidance document SPG - Parking (Adopted by SNC)
