South Northamptonshire and its wonderful attractions will be on show during the launch of a nine-day festival, which celebrates the wildlife, heritage, and culture of the Nene Valley.

Among other prizes, a night for four at Towcester Racecourse is up for grabs for those who take the best picture on the day.

The Nene Valley Festival is a diverse programme of events aimed at residents and visitors to the area and kicks off with a family fun day at Delapre Park in Northampton on Saturday, 16 September.

Officers from South Northamptonshire Council’s (SNC) economic development team will be on hand to share information about the shopping, activities, events and venues in the district with people from across the region.

Cllr Stephen Clarke, SNC’s portfolio holder for economic development, regeneration and housing, said: “The Nene Valley family fun day is a great way to enjoy a fabulous family day out, while supporting your local traders at the same time.

“It promises to be a great day with guided walks, a treasure hunt and craft activities for the whole family to enjoy.

“Thousands of people are expected and it is a great opportunity to show off what South Northamptonshire has to offer to people who live on the outskirts of the district.”

SNC is holding a competition for the best photo from the day, with the opportunity to win great South Northants prizes, including a Saturday night at Towcester Racecourse with an a la carte meal for four in the Empress Suite Restaurant, table for the evening, race programme and a private balcony.

Anyone at the family fun day can take part by posting their best picture to the SNC Facebook page via @SouthNorthantsCouncil, or Twitter account using the handle @SNorthantsC. The images with the most likes and retweets at midday on Monday, 18 September will win prizes.

The Nene Valley Festival Launch is free to attend and takes place between 11am and 2pm.

The nine-day programme features: a workshop on bronze swords, outdoor cinema screenings, a triathlon, competitions, cycling events, a food festival,  guided tours, wildlife walks, and theatre events.
