Campaign to get South Northamptonshire shopping locally

As housing developments unfold in Brackley and Towcester, South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) has helped launch two new websites to encourage residents to shop locally.

With thousands of people set to move into the market towns over the next few years, SNCís economic growth team has renewed its efforts to promote both town centres.

Any business in Brackley or Towcester can now register their details for free at www.brackleymarkettown.uk and www.visittowcester.co.uk.

Cllr Stephen Clarke, SNCís portfolio holder for economic development, regeneration and housing, said: ďSouth Northamptonshire is one of the best places to live in the UK and our market towns are a showcase of all the features that make the district special.

ďThe traditional atmosphere and friendly slow pace of historic market towns, with a lifestyle much cherished in todayís fast paced world, makes it an attractive place to live and shop.

ďAs more and more people are attracted to our market towns, they will want to do their research and find out more about the facilities available.  These websites will be a great place to start for anyone getting to know either town.Ē

The websites were produced by the retailers themselves, led by Neal Palk, chairman of Towcester Traders and Jan Dean, chairman of Brackley Means Business.

Ms Dean said: ďWeíre very encouraged by SNCís support for the high street and hope the website grabs the attention of people new to the district, It alsoreminds existing residents of what their high street has to offer.Ē

Mr Palk said: ďPeople have busy lives and shop where it is most convenient for them. Iíve lost count of the number of first time customers who say they were surprised at the variety of shops in Towcester.

ďAnd itís not just about selling things, itís about offering a higher level of service, itís about knowing your products and giving unbiased advice.

ďIf you donít find what you want in the first shop you visit in Towcester, you are more than likely going to get a referral to another retailer who does have what you need.Ē

SNC also hosts the itslocal interactive map listing businesses and retailers throughout South Northants.
