Students were rewarded for their hard work and progress at Silverstone University Technical College’s (UTC) annual Student Awards Ceremony.

Held on Thursday, 6 July, the awards celebrate students’ achievements throughout the year in a variety of different subjects.

South Northamptonshire Council (SNC) sponsored five awards and Chairman Cllr Fiona Baker presented the prizes to Year 10 students for achievement in computing, geography, mathematics and media and for effort in German.

She said of the event: “It’s wonderful to see such passion, enthusiasm and dedication from the students at the UTC and the awards are a fantastic way to show the students that their hard work and achievements are recognised and rewarded.”

“It also sets a great example and standard for other students to aspire to.”

Neil Patterson, the UTC’s Principal, said: “This event is the jewel in the crown of our calendar, where over 25 companies and organisations sponsored awards in over 60 categories, ranging from local employers and organisations like SNC, to big regional employers like Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team.

“That so many people want to get behind us in celebrating our students’ successes is heart-warming, and we’re very grateful to SNC for all their support that started well before the UTC opened in 2013.”

Silverstone UTC offers young people aged 14 to 19 the opportunity to specialise in high performance engineering and business, and technical events management.

It is located overlooking the world famous racing circuit and so far 100 per cent of graduates have found a university place, apprenticeship or employment from sixth form.
