Housing Evidence Base for Local Plan Part 2

The following documents form the housing evidence base for the South Northamptonshire Local Plan Part 2.

Some of the housing evidence is available on the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit website.

The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)

The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) is a technical site assessment to seek any further information or evidence about potential future housing sites which have been identified. The SHLAA is not a plan for development, but simply a part of the technical evidence base required to inform the plan making process. The purpose of the Assessment is to identify where and how many new housing sites could be developed over a 5, 10 and 15 year period. It will then be used to inform the preparation of the Local Plan. The inclusion of a site in the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment does not decide if it should be allocated for development. The Assessment has not taken into account, nor applied, any policy considerations; this will come later in the plan making process.

The Strategic Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA)

This is an essential piece of evidence which is required to support the Local Plan process. It is an update and addition to the SHLAA and is a technical assessment which considers the availability, suitability and achievability of land in the District for possible development. The assessment does not in itself determine whether a site should be allocated for development but is used to aid the Local Plan making process. The SHELAA is not a statement of Council planning policy.
