Supplementary Planning Documents and Guidance

The purpose of Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs and SPGs) and interim planning policy guidance is to clarify and expand Local Plan policies to provide more detailed guidance on specific subjects and briefs for the development of particular sites or areas. The Council no longer produces SPGs as they have been replaced with SPDs since 2004, however they remain material considerations in planning decisions.

Some of the contact details at the end of several SPGs and SPDs have changed. Please contact for any queries.

Planning briefs and masterplans are produced for significant development proposals identified in the Local Plan. They set out in more detail the form development should take, eg road pattern, housing layout and design, landscape, public open space etc.
