Towcester South Development update

Update on the Towcester South Development from Paul Carvey, senior project manager for Persimmon Homes Midlands:

All necessary agreements have been reached thereby allowing the commencement of the construction of the new roundabout on the A5 opposite Chain Lodge at the entrance to The Racecourse as indicated in the image below.

Map showing area where work is due to take place

As part of the enabling works, and prior to undertaking the construction of the new roundabout, it will be necessary to widen Besses Lane where it meets the A5.

These works will be undertaken under three way lights over a period of two nights: Monday,  20 and Tuesday, 2 March.

This is required to accommodate the turning of larger vehicles in order that they can reach the construction compound which is to be temporarily accessed via Besses Lane.

These works will not necessitate the removal of any large trees, nor will they impact on the character of Besses Lane other than for the very short term.

Once access for the construction vehicles is available via the new roundabout, this temporary access will be removed and the area will be reinstated accordingly.

The construction of the roundabout will now commence on Monday, 27 March and is due to be completed during Autumn 2017.

A full closure of the A5 over the extent of the works is currently planned to occur during the night of Sunday, 26 March. This to allow the installation of the variguard (required to segregate the workforce from public traffic).

The diversion route will be signed accordingly.

Certain elements of traffic management are required to be undertaken overnight, as are other works, to accommodate the anticipated traffic flows on the A5. Further measures taken will be the introduction of a 40 mph speed limit.

After the installation of the variguard there will be approximately 12 weeks of narrow lanes on the A5 which will still allow two-way traffic to pass.

Further full road closures will be notified in due course however these will be kept to an absolute minimum.

I hope the above has provided an overview of the initial construction activities to be undertaken and I can assure that all parties will endeavour to keep disruption to a minimum.

Finally, should you have any general questions prior to the next update please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you
