Taxis

Any person driving a vehicle with less than nine passenger seats for hire or reward must hold a licence issued by the local authority. You must be at least 21 years of age and have held a full UK driving licence for more than 12 months.

The vehicle must also be licensed and if it's a private hire vehicle, all work must be pre-booked through a private hire operator.

The driver, vehicle and operator must all be licensed by the same authority.

A hackney carriage (taxi) can park on a taxi rank, ply for hire or be 'flagged down'.

A private hire vehicle cannot do any of these and must be pre-booked.
