Press Release: Recycling boost for schools

This term, schools across the district will have the chance to take part in a free 'bin audit' scheme.

This educational scheme is run by South Northamptonshire Council to show children just how much recycling is being missed, and ending up in landfill.

A sample of rubbish bins at each participating school will be sorted on the school grounds, so the staff and children can see exactly what they’re throwing away.  The scheme aims to help them to improve their recycling and save money.

The schools will be re-visited a few months later to see how their recycling has improved.

Cllr Rebecca Breese, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Waste Management said: “This is a great opportunity for children and staff to see just how much waste their school produces, and encourage them to reduce waste in the future. Children can then use their formidable skills at "pester power" to continue the recycling initiative at school and at home”.

The first school to sign up is Kingsbrook Secondary School, Deanshanger. Any schools who would like to take part in this scheme should contact South Northamptonshire Council on 01327 322344 or email - customerservice@southnorthants.gov.uk
