Housing allocations policy

The housing allocations policy ensures that we assist those in housing need and enable the limited supply of affordable housing within the district to be used most efficiently.

The demand for affordable housing locally is far greater than the number of homes available. We therefore need to prioritise people based on their housing need.

The housing allocations policy is supported by a housing options approach giving applicants realistic advice on their chances of being housed by us and promoting other housing options, such as low cost home ownership and private sector renting where appropriate. This will ensure that applicants are clear from the outset about their chances of being housed in the district.
