We issues licences for, or register, a whole range of activities, from cinemas to lotteries, and from street collections to tattooing.
The most common are private hire vehicles and hackney carriages (taxis) and their drivers. The least common are dangerous wild animals, such as ostriches, or some snakes and spiders.
Each licence has its own rules and regulations. If you are keen to have all the detail and the legal ins and outs, go to the small print links on this page.
