Backdate housing benefit and Council Tax reduction

If you have submitted a late claim for housing benefit or Council Tax reduction scheme and you think your application should be backdated, you will need to complete this form.

Housing benefit and Council Tax reduction is normally only awarded from the Monday following the date on which the application is made. If you have made a late application and you want your claim backdating, the law requires you to prove to us that there is "good cause", the law provides that no application can be backdated by more than 6 months before the date on which the application for backdated housing benefit or Council Tax reduction was made or 1 month for those of working age .

As a general rule claimants are expected to realise that they may have rights to benefit and to make enquires to find out what those rights are and when they should be exercised.
