Lottery Registrations

The Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 (as amended by the National Lottery etc. Act 1993) controls the conduct of small lotteries, raffles etc. by societies raising money for charitable, sports and other similar purposes, otherwise than for personal gain.

The Acts allow socities and organisations to hold lotteries to raise money for charitable, sporting, cultural and other similar activities. This is providing the funds raised would not result in private gain or benefit to commercial undertakings.

The society must register with the local authority within whose area the office of the headquarters of the society are based.

The cost is £35.00 for new applications and providing it is renewed annually on the 1st January, £17.50 thereafter. All registrations become due for renewal on 1st January, irrespective of the first registered date.

If you are holding a coffee morning, school fare, bazaar etc. or any other event where raffle tickets will be sold on the same that the prize draw is made, there is no need to register.   To download an Lotteries Registration Form (pdf).
