Caravan Site Licence

Most caravan sites, including park homes must have planning permission and a site licence.

To obtain planning permission an application must be made to the Planning Department. Site licences are issued by the Environment Division.

The standards at residential /touring caravan sites and park home estates are controlled through planning permission and the site licensing system established under the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960.

We as the licensing authority, have discretion over what, if any, conditions to apply to a site licence but in general  follow the Model Standards issued by the Secretary of State. The Site Licence Conditions are designed to protect the health, safety and welfare of occupiers and visitors to licenced sites and covers such issues as fire safety, sanitary arrangements, distances between caravans. There are two sets of conditions:

The Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960 prohibits the use of land as a caravan site unless the occupier holds a site licence issued by the local authority. There are some exceptions to the need for a licence:
