1. Check Criteria
The Council will grant exemption from Council Tax indefinitely for a dwelling that is no one’s sole or main residence if the owner is a student. The property is unoccupied and,
a) the liable person is a student or becomes a student within six weeks of the property becoming unoccupied;
b) that no one other than the student lived there;
c) the exemption continues only as long as the person remains a student;
d) the exemption only applies to academic students on full time qualifying course, foreign language assistants and student nurses on full time courses at institutions of higher education.
If the property satisfies these conditions, please complete and return the enclosed form to the Customer Service Centre. Please include the Student Certificate that is obtainable from your college or university.
