Community safety, preventing crime and antisocial behaviour

South Northamptonshire has very low crime rates but in comparison, the number of people who fear crime is relatively high.

We know some people in our local communities are worried by antisocial behaviour and crime in our local villages and towns and we are working with communities to identify problems and come up with solutions.

Community Safety Partnership

We are part of a community Safety Partnerhsip which means we work with the police, the county council, local health services, the probation service, connexions, the voluntary sector and local schools to improve safety in communities and reduce antisocial behaviour, crime and the fear of crime.

The community Safety Partnership is part of the Local Strategic Partnership who have produced a community Strategy to set out what issues we think are important and what we will all be working towards until 2008.

Find out more about the Local Strategic Partnership. Click here to read the Community Safety Strategy (doc). Read the summary of the Community Safety Strategy (pdf), which also includes a useful list of contacts for community safety issues.

Project 5

Lots of people tell us they would like to see more things for young people to do, to help keep them off the streets.

Project 5, which is funded and run by the Community Safety Partnership, runs a series of sports, arts and leisure activities for young people, including the mobile skate park which can come to your village.

To find out more about Project 5 and how it can help your community, contact

Antisocial behaviour

We know that anti-social behaviour is a serious problem that affects the quality of life of individuals, families and communities. The Daventry District and South Northamptonshire Safer Stronger Partnership is committed to working across agencies to tackle and reduce anti-social behaviour in the area.

These standards are our commitment to you and set out what you can expect from South Northamptonshire Council, Northamptonshire Police and other partner organisations that are jointly responsible for dealing with anti-social behaviour in your community.

For help and advice on anti-social behaviour contact 01327 302519.
We will:

  • Keep you informed about what is being done to deal with anti-social behaviour in your area.
  • Take your reports of anti-social behaviour seriously.
  • Respond on a priority basis, considering an assessment of risk, any repeat incidents and vulnerability. We will tell you what we will do next.
  • Respond to complaints that are assessed as a high priority within 24-hours/one working day.
  • Keep you informed of progress on action taken within ten working days as a maximum.
  • Provide you with a named contact to ensure you can remain in touch about any concerns you may have.
  • Work with victims of anti-social behaviour to identify and provide the support they need. A leaflet describing the service can be downloaded from the Northamptonshire Police website.
  • Maintain strong links between the Council, Police Community Safety Teams and other local partner agencies to ensure that anti-social behaviour is dealt with effectively.
  • Publish the specific service standards that you can expect from those responsible for environmental or enforcement issues, such as the removal of graffiti, fly-tipping, noise nuisance and dog fouling on the council’s website.

We want to do our best for you but if we fail to meet our standards we will always explain why it has not been possible on that occasion.

If you feel agencies have not taken effective action to resolve anti-social behaviour in your community and the matter cannot be resolved through their normal complaints procedure you can complain to the Community Partnerships Manager, in writing to Springfields, Towcester NN12 6AE, by telephone on 01327 302424 or by email to kevin.fagan@southnorthants.gov.uk
