Make sure your voice is heard on Election Day

Election Day is drawing closer, and so is the deadline for being registered to vote. Anyone who wants to vote in the elections on Thursday 5 May will need to make sure they are registered before the deadline on Thursday 14 April.

This election will also include the first UK-wide referendum in over 30 years. South Northamptonshire Council is urging residents who want their voice to be heard on Election Day to ensure that they are on the electoral roll.

Most residents will already be on the electoral roll, as South Northamptonshire Council wrote to all households in the district last autumn as part of the annual electoral registration process. Any resident who has moved address since, or is unsure whether they have registered, should contact electoral.services@southnorthants.gov.uk or 01327 322128.

With several bank holidays coming up around Election Day, residents who are going to be away on 5 May can also apply to vote by post or by proxy.

Jean Morgan, Returning Officer for the elections, said: “Now is the time to make sure your voice is heard on Election Day. Even if you can’t get to the polling station on the day, there are other ways of casting your vote - including by post or by asking someone you trust (a ‘proxy’) to cast your vote for you.

“It is important that you are registered to vote before the deadline on Thursday 14 April – or you won’t be able to vote. To register to vote, or to apply for a postal or proxy vote, simply contact our electoral services team on 01327 322128 or print off the forms from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.”
