We do regular and planned street cleaning in residential areas using mechanical sweepers that clean out the litter, leaves and blossom from footpaths and road channels. We go to the town centres in Towcester and Brackley every day.
We also sweep and clear litter on main roads and dual carriageways, including lay-bys and grass verges.
We inspect this work and have to report to the Government on how well we keep the streets clean.
We put these near shops, benches, schools and bus stops, and empty them on a weekly basis.
You can do your bit by using the bins or taking your rubbish home. You are actually breaking the law if you drop litter like cigarette ends or sweet wrappers and you can be fined up to £75.
Fly-tipping
Fly-tipping means dumping rubbish and is against the law. If you report it to us, we will try to get rid of dumped rubbish in two working days.
We clear fly-tipping from the public highway, verges and lay-bys. If rubbish is dumped on private land, e.g. farmer's fields or domestic gardens then it is the owners responsibility to clear it.
You can report fly-tipping online by clicking on Fly-tipping report form.
The Environment Agency deals with large scale dumping and toxic wastes.
If you produce waste it is your duty to make sure you get rid of it properly. Companies and individuals can be prosecuted even if they did not actually dump the waste but handed it to someone who did, unless you made reasonable checks.
Always make sure that the person taking your waste away (and this includes tree loppings) is a registered waste carrier and will properly dispose of the waste. For certain items you can use our bulky waste collection service or take your waste to a local recycling centre.
We can and do prosecute people who fly tip so report it to us.

Public areas of grass such as verges are cut by Northamptonshire County Council. If you have a problem with the County Council’s grass cutting service call its Street Doctor line on 0845 6011113.
Larger areas of grass like play areas are normally cut by the local Town or Parish Council. Click here to find your nearest.
South Northants Homes are responsible for cutting grass in communal areas in Council housing estates. Click here to contact South Northants Homes.
We remove graffiti from our own buildings – let us know if you see some. Unfortunately if someone writes graffiti on your own home or building you are responsible for cleaning it off.
Graffiti is vandalism. Make sure you report it to the police on 08453 700700.
We look after two public toilets, one in Brackley and one in Towcester, and clean them twice a day. You can use them for baby changing and there is good access for disabled people.
